Heritage Open Days 2022
We are offering a unique opportunity to learn about the site at Birley Spa, and its history from ancient to modern, including our plans for the future. The talk and tour will be around 40 minutes, visitors will also be able to view the Bath House and plunge pool. We will then have a short walk around the grounds, hopefully, see some of the residents of the Spa, maybe even the Kingfisher and we will give an insight into how much the area has changed over the years. As this year's theme is Astounding Inventions we will also take a slight tongue in cheek look at the value the Victorians placed on the benefits of Spa Bathing and its relevance to wellbeing today.

Birley Spa Bath House

Birley Spa is a community hall and a Victorian bathhouse in the Hackenthorpe district of the City of Sheffield, England. It was built for Charles Herbert Pierrepont, 2nd Earl Manvers and the Lord of the Manor of Beighton in 1842, and initially was a hotel with spa baths beneath. Subsequently, it was used for many years as private dwellings. In the 1973 it was given Grade II listed building status. History

The Pond, Grounds and Wildlife

The garden and grounds although rather neglected are home to a number of ancient oaks and an abundance of wildlife. The pond has a resident Kingfisher, with Mallard and a Heron visiting frequently. More
