Flowering Plants
Picture
Galium odoratum Woodruff

Pretty little shade loving woodland plant which during the Middle Ages was hung out to dry, crushed, and sewn into bags to keep clothing fresh. It smells of freshly cut hay. Known for its sleep-inducing properties, woodruff pillows were a welcome addition in any home.

Lamium galeobdolon Yellow Archangel

Otherwise known as the Aluminium Plant which abounds at Birley Spa,

perhaps a little too much! In this form with the silver stripe it is seen as a

common wildflower in Europe, but a garden escapee here. The shy yellow

flowers are surprisingly bright and should follow the bloom of the

bluebells, but this plants spread is so prolific it has smothered them.

Primula Vulgaris Primrose

One of our native and most attractive wildflowers whose pretty lemon

flowers are a clear sign of Spring. Possibly due to the lack of

maintenance these beauties haven't spread as far as they could, hopefully

with a little TLC they will.
